hi guys! this is a comic i made for a final in my comics in literature class. we had to do a research paper on a topic we’d discussed in class and then accompany it with a comic with a relevant subject. my paper was about hyper-sexualization of women in comic books, but i decided to broaden it out here as well as personalize it and make myself the subject and discuss something i’ve been subjected to in the convention circuit and on the internet as well as thousands of other women, as well as give a cue to thought about how the comic book industry as well as the video game industry and even just media in general (all of which are male dominated) push such ridiculous pressures onto girls and women.

also, it feels kind of silly to have to add this since i hope it’s obvious, but i am very aware that there are men that don’t subscribe to this attitude, and am incredibly grateful that these issues are brought to light to people other than the ones that are subjected to it.

PBB Teens Vlogging?!

This is something I wrote on ABS-CBN’s PBB5 Suggestions Thread. I really hope they do it!

I’d really like to see another Teen edition and besides tweets can we get the housemates to vlog (video blog) on youtube? Vlogging’s becoming really popular nowadays. I understand that their will be a lot of housemates so what if they rotate every week? Housemate A can vlog on Monday, then Housemate B can vlog on Thursday, and then next week it’s Housemate C and Housemate D and so on. Vlog videos are not very long (most range from 3-5 minutes). This is an excellent way to challenge the housemates’ performance and problem solving (ie. what kind of videos would they do, or how they would talk to an audience, what kind of topics they’d like to talk about.)

Also, this is a good way to get more in touch with an international audience especially if you put in subtitles in the video (ie. for young Filipino Americans/Europeans who grew up only knowing English).

Anyway, it’d be really cool to see the housemates vlogging. The fans would most likely love this kind of extra stuff especially if they can share it on their blogs, gif it, comment on it and so on. There are so many possibilities with this medium and the level of immersion it provides to its viewers can be very good for the show as well (if you’re shooting for ratings and an even bigger audience). ABS-CBN has all the resources for vlogging (ie. camera equipment, set designers, video editors, PR people, etc). Get the housemates to utilize these resources. Get them to vlog inside Kuya’s house!
